The rocks "leave trails behind them as they amble around the dry lake bed at Racetrack Playa when no one’s looking. How they move around is unknown — and the stones aren’t telling."

The first one is something called "columnar jointing" that happens as igneous rocks cool. It's really a stunning thing to see in person. Though I've never seen it at an amazing beach like that.
And I really want to be a fly on the wall - er, mountain - watching those sliding rocks in death valley!
